Empowerment… Not Pity!

Providing the finest medical training to indigenous surgeons

Our Vision

Every day, throughout developing countries all over the world, tens of thousands of children need life-saving surgery. At Surgeons of Hope, we believe the best way to save each child is through empowerment… not pity.

Our concept of self-care focuses on building independent, sustainable, state-of-the-art hospitals fitted to local needs and on providing the finest medical training to indigenous surgeons.

Action

  • Teaching local care-providers the necessary medical, technical and managerial skills to treat the children in their own communities.
  • Providing surgery to both paying and non-paying patients: a balanced price system that allows wealthier patients to pay for the disadvantaged.
  • Creating a safe environment where a child can recover with family nearby.

“A lot of foundations go with the idea that you go one step at a time — that you have to feed them first, We don’t believe in that. We believe in providing topnotch technology to bring everyone up to level.”
–Bernard Vasseur, SoH Surgeon
