SoH Statement of Purpose

Curing and Training. Training to Cure.

Surgeons of Hope Foundation, Inc. (SoH) is a US registered non-profit organization whose purpose is to bring sustainable surgical and medical care to indigent children in developing countries.

We believe that the only way to make a lasting impact on the lives of disadvantaged children is through the transmission of knowledge and skills to their home country. SoH seeks to transfer necessary medical, technical and managerial skills to specially designed hospitals, which will use these medical facilities to treat patients locally. Performing surgery in a child’s own environment, culture, and language, with his or her family nearby, is the most helpful and cost-effective way to cure these children.

The hospitals are designed to become financially autonomous within the first few years of operation. By accepting some fee-paying patients, who would otherwise go abroad for treatment, the hospitals will be able to finance the operations of impoverished children and raise the overall standard of medical treatment in the region.

SoH, along with its network of affiliate organizations in Europe, has over 15 years’ experience in the field of pediatric surgery and has operated on over 7,000 children in developing countries. Our goal is to increase the hospital projects and their resource base. SoH seeks to mobilize human, material and financial resources to train more local surgical teams and operate on more children.

To achieve this goal, we are actively seeking individual, corporate and institutional partners to help support our existing hospital projects and to create new ones around the world.
