Delos Cosgrove, MDChairman and CEO Delos Cosgrove, MD, was accepted at the University of Virginia School of Medicine following his graduation from Williams College. His surgical internship and residency were completed at the Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, New York, the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Brook General Hospital in London, England and at the Boston Children’s Hospital and at the Cleveland Clinic as the Chairman of the Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery. He is certified by the American Board of Surgery, the American Board of Thoracic Surgery, and was President of the American Association for Thoracic Surgery (AATS) from 1999-2000. His widely acknowledged surgical expertise is coupled with high level research work and innumerable publications. His special interest and skills in the treatment of thoracic and cardiovascular diseases, mitral and aortic valve repair, minimally invasive valve surgery, thoracic aneurysms, homographs, use of alternative conduits in coronary artery surgery, blood conservation amply evidence the broad spectrum of his skills and extensive expertise.
Beyond research and technique, the expert is open to the predicament of developing countries and especially the fate of children who will die unless they get life-saving surgery their countries cannot offer them. This was how and why Delos Cosgrove has accepted to serve on the Board of the Surgeons of Hope Foundation and offer his personal involvement in its projects, an invaluable contribution considering his international stature and repute.
